The idea that I would launch a web site never entered my mind—until 2009. Then, like millions of Americans I was stunned by the changes and reckless spending coming from the White House and Congress. Sasstoday was born in early 2010 out of a deep love for this country and deep concern over the direction in which many in power were taking, and in the process possibly destroying, the land that I love.
The changes made our heads spin: the unfathomable amount of government spending, the arrogance of those who would foist unwanted health care changes onto the American people, the denigrating of America by her own President, the weak foreign policy decisions that placated our enemies and let down our allies, and the unwillingness of our President to acknowledge that we are at war against an enemy unlike any we have ever faced.
A largely trusting and complacent America woke up and said, “Enough!” We began writing our Congressional members, attending town hall meetings, joining tea parties or in my case, launching this web site. All these collective and individual actions are sending a strong message to those in power: “Watch out!” You can only push “We the People” so far. History shows we push back.
I’m an “Army brat” and proud of it but I’ll never have the privilege of wearing the uniform of a member of the U.S. military. So this is my way of getting involved, of fighting back, of injecting a little “sass and sensibility” into the critical dialogue over the future of this great nation. Big government, listen up: Get out of our way; we’re taking back our country!
